Bitstop ATMs let you buy gold-backed digital tokens with cash. These tokens represent ownership of real, physical gold while giving you the flexibility of a digital asset. Two are available: PAX Gold (PAXG) and Tether Gold (XAUt).
A gold-backed token is tied to physical gold held in secure vaults, with each token corresponding to a defined amount of gold. PAXG is backed 1:1 by London Good Delivery gold held in London vaults under Paxos Trust Company, with each token representing one fine troy ounce. XAUt is backed by gold held in Swiss vaults and managed by Tether Gold, with holdings verifiable on the blockchain. Both are ERC-20 tokens on Ethereum, are highly divisible so you can hold fractional amounts, and are available on more than 3,000 Bitstop machines.
Gold-backed tokens are not the same as physical Goldbacks, which are gold notes you hold in hand. See our Goldbacks page for that option.
To buy: find a machine that offers PAXG or XAUt using the locator's coin filter, verify your identity, select the token, and provide a wallet address that supports ERC-20 tokens on Ethereum (MetaMask, Trust Wallet, and Exodus all work). Insert cash and confirm, and the token is delivered to your wallet.
